Despite generally strong controls and practices by Financial Institutions, methods for stealing personal data and committing fraud are continually evolving. The FDIC Office of the Inspector General in a February 2017 report noted that FFIEC efforts to impose more responsibility on IT providers has not had much success as of yet.

Examiners are increasingly asking about what a bank will do in the event of a breach. Expectations for director training have increased especially in light of the FFIEC Cyber Security Assessment Tool. Yet director training conducted by IT staff quickly causes eyes to glaze over This program will discuss what directors need to know and focus on, how to react to a cyber breach and what policies and procedures should be in place for the inevitable breach. This presentation will be conducted by the attorney who has handled the largest breach in American history as well as dozens of smaller ones for financial institutions, retailers and others.
